Sydenham Port Cranes, Moon

$320.00

Walking Home, from the Walking the Perimeter series by Janet Elizabeth Thomas

In Sydenham Port Cranes, Moon, Janet Elizabeth Thomas transforms an industrial landscape into a striking nocturnal study of light, geometry and place. Illuminated by artificial light and framed beneath a crescent moon, the towering forms of port infrastructure rise against a deep night sky, their angular structures echoing the rhythms of the surrounding urban environment. Nearby rooftops, utility poles and foliage ground the scene within the lived landscape of Sydney's Inner West.

Part of the Walking Home group, the final section of Walking the Perimeter, the work reflects the artist's return journey toward her Marrickville studio. Seen from the Sydenham area beneath the flight path of Sydney Airport, the distant port cranes become unexpected landmarks, symbols of movement, industry and connection. As the series returns home, such structures serve as beacons marking the boundaries between the local and the global, the domestic and the industrial.

Through bold contrasts, simplified forms and rich atmospheric colour, Thomas reveals the quiet beauty of a landscape often overlooked, finding moments of contemplation within the infrastructure that shapes daily life.

Medium: Digital painting, archival pigment print
Edition: Limited edition of 25
Size: A3 (297 × 420 mm)
Authentication: Individually signed and numbered by the artist on the reverse and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Framing Options: Available unframed or professionally framed in a selection of contemporary timber and gallery-style finishes. Museum-grade matting and glazing options are available upon request.

A compelling addition to the Walking Home series, Sydenham Port Cranes, Moon offers collectors a distinctive vision of Sydney's industrial horizon, where night, memory and the experience of returning home converge in a powerful meditation on place.
